Penn State Shenango to Host Technology and Career Expo
Sharon, PA – The 2010 Penn State Shenango Technology and Career Expo will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Mar. 31 in the Great Hall of Shenango campus' Sharon Hall. The event, which is being co-sponsored by the Technology Council of Northwestern Pennsylvania and Penn State Shenango's Information Sciences and Technology (IST) and Career Services departments, will provide technology training and education through seminars, keynote speakers, and product demonstrations.
Beginning at 1 p.m., keynote speakers Chris Wassel and Brian Zentis, program managers from the RFID Center of Excellence, Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, will present an overview of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology. The presentation will include an overview of RFID technology, applications, system components, standards, and business benefits. At
2 p.m., Heidi Friedrich, from Penn State Shenango's Career Services' department and Matt Roberts from Penn State Shenango's IST department , will hold a seminar on “Online Etiquette” in Sharon Hall room 108, while Wassel and Zentis will hold a hands-on demonstration illustrating RFID tagging techniques and issuesin Sharon Hall 105. Starting at 3 p.m., Carrie Teetzel, director of eLearning and Workforce Projects, will present a seminar on “E-marketing and E-Careers” in Sharon Hall room 108, and John Zohoranacky, senior developer from Rust Oleum Corp., Inc., will present a seminar on “Web Design Tips and Tools” in Sharon Hall room 105. At 4 p.m., David Reeves, owner, Reeves Information Technology, will hold a seminar on "Windows 7 and More," and Justin Miller from Penn State University's Media Commons, will hold a demonstration on "Video Creation" in Forker Lab room 125.
An opportunity to visit the staff of the Penn State Computer Store will be available throughout the day in the Great Hall where they will be demonstrating new technologies. The event will conclude with a series of roundtable discussions about degree programs in Business, IST, Human Development and Family Studies, Nursing and Physical Therapy Assistant. Business representatives and experts in attendance, as well as members from the campus' Advisory Board and Alumni Society board—all are welcome to participate.
