Paradigm Infotech to Support Center for eBusiness and Advanced IT

(April 25, 2003) A Baltimore, MD based, global information technology (IT) provider has expanded its operations to northwest Pennsylvania. Paradigm Infotech has secured an office in Millcreek and hired a local manager to oversee 10 employees, including a number of IT workers taking part in a new program administered by the Center for eBusiness and Advanced Information Technology.

According to Jeff Flatley, former General Manager of Pentacon Erie Operations, now Business Development Manager at Paradigm Infotech, “It is estimated that up to 500 potential northwest Pennsylvania jobs are currently being filled by IT professionals from out of state or abroad. We believe as many as 200 of these jobs potentially could be redirected to local talent over the next few years and Paradigm is investing in developing a team of qualified contract programmers and analysts to compete for these jobs.”

Flatley said Paradigm opened the branch office to serve as a launching pad to market the newly trained employees. He expects to work closely with local universities and technical schools to identify the best talent available to bring to the program, while also seeking to secure IT services contracts with local employers to provide employment and IT experience to new professionals.

Six employees are part of an initiative by the Center for EBusiness and Advanced IT to provide on-the-job training for northwestern Pennsylvanians to increase their employment opportunities in the IT services market. The participants in the Center program would gain experience by working alongside seasoned professionals provided by the employer or by Paradigm. The initial group of programmers is working at GE Transportation Systems doing a range of projects in the e-services area.

“The company will also offer in-house and localized training to supplement the new professionals’ on-the-job training with access to current technologies,” said Flatley. He also said that unlike traditional consulting arrangements, the employees hired into this program are available after six months to participating companies who wish to hire them. “The idea is to extend the growing pipeline of experienced professionals to feed existing demand as well as secure some of the larger projects that previously have been sourced outside the region.”

The Center for eBusiness and Advanced Technology is a statewide initiative by the Ben Franklin Technology Development Authority with offices located in Knowledge Park adjacent to Penn State Erie,The Behrend College.
